Bought One

Okay, I confess, I did not buy the iPad2, nor did I buy mine new, but the one I got *is* the 64 gig first-gen iPad, only gently used, and was a good bargain - got it from a friend who threw in a docking keyboard, a charging/power unit and a leather case/cover, all for a very reasonable four hundred dollars.

Anyway, it's quite handsome, works great, and with the addition of the keyboard, it's a very nice netbook replacement, indeed, I could see going on vacation, and taking no other gadgets than the iPad, the iPod Touch and my mobile - if I ever actually went on vacation - but don't for a moment think I'm done with tech purchases this year: I've now got my eye on this and this, just sayin'.

Proust Questionnaire*

*thanks and apologies to Vanity Fair and Mssr. Proust

From Blogizdat LJ:

*) Your most marked characteristic?

A deep-rooted need to hold close what is dear to me

*) The quality you most like in a man?

Masculine charm, mostly because it's the grease that makes the gears of life turn, and I just wish I had more of it

*) The quality you most like in a woman?

Feminine charm, well that and passion, too, cause when combined they are unsinkable and bulletproof, and I'm drawn to it all like a bear to honey

*) What do you most value in your friends?

Their willingness to be my friend, despite all manner of reasons I might give them to be otherwise

My Own Pretty Glossolalia Machine

From Blogizdat LJ:

Throughout the ages there have been ecstatic movements that have embraced one form of glossolalia or other, the private or collective experience of speaking in tongues, utterances that are not of one's own, usually attributed to and employed in the worship of some deity.

And even though I've never participated in such, ever since I was a young lad I found that song lyrics sometimes expressed my thoughts and feelings better than I ever could, that I could close my eyes and use the words of others to take me to a different state, frothing with memories, capturing the essence of my fears and hopes and longings.

Anyway, here are a few lyrics that have been running in my head the past we few weeks, some partial, some complete, some that make me think, shudder, smile, tear up - and sometimes just sing along - my own pretty glossolalia machine.

*) "Through The Bars" - Elliott Smith

"Drink up, baby, stay up all night, The things you could do, you won't but you might, The potential you'll be that you'll never see. The promises you'll only make - Drink up with me now and forget all about, The pressure of days, do what I say, And I'll make you okay and drive them away, The images stuck in your head - People you've been before that you don't want around anymore, That push and shove and won't bend to your will, I'll keep them still - Drink up, baby, look at the stars, I'll kiss you again between the bars, Where I'm seeing you there with your hands in the air, Waiting to finally be caught - Drink up one more time and I'll make you mine, Keep you apart, deep in my heart, Separate from the rest, where I like you the best, And keep the things you forgot - The people you've been before that you don't want around anymore, That push and shove and won't bend to your will, I'll keep them still"
