Randomnimity - Memorial Day

From Blogizdat LJ:

  • It's Memorial Day, a public holiday, and I had the day off work.
  • I woke up way-early, stuck in some kind of angsty loop, ruminating over things out of my control.
  • I hate when I get this way, cause I tend to forget to eat, but I did have some iced tea for breakfast

Today's Randomnimity - Kinda Linked Abstract Poem Edition

From Blogizdat LJ:

Wishes are pretty pointless
I wish it were nearer
Nearly hit a doe the other night
Does it really matter that I care?

Henry and June - And Anais

From Blogizdat LJ:

I watched the 1990 film 'Henry and June' this past week, and I'm still trying to digest it.

Thing is, I deliberately did not read the Anais Nin book on which the movie is based before watching it as I was afraid it might ruin the movie for me, but from all the other reading I've done - by and about Anais Nin, before and since - I think I expected too much, and now that I've begun to read the original source, I can see I was mistaken: I should have read the book first.

Bottom line, 'Henry and June' is not a bad movie, but it's certainly not great, and does not come even close to doing justice to the book.

Today's Randomnimity - Birthday Musings

From Blogizdat LJ:

  • Birthday - it's my birthday this next week, and I will be fifty-three, two years older than my dad was when he died, which kind of freaks me out.
  • Falling apart - I feel like I'm really starting to go to seed, cause my body is wracked with aches and pains (aren't they the same thing, really?) and I'm more prone to depression and anxiety than I've ever been.
  • Appearance - what's more, I am starting to gray, and kind of going bald at the crown, yet I don't think I really look my age, as I have somehow managed to escape so far without wrinkles or crow's feet, and at six-foot-six, I've stayed a relatively slender two hundred-five pounds for nearly twenty years.

Today's Randonmiinity - Linked Edition

From Blogizdat LJ:

  • When I'm feeling really down it's kind of comforting to sit on the plaza under the 35W Bridge, and yes, since you asked, I spent about an hour there tonight, watching the river flow, musing and reading old journals.
  • I prefer reading journals to watching TV.
  • TV or Not TV: I'm really disappointed in this season's '24,' and I think it's just as well the show is ending. I'm also really disappointed in 'V,' I really had high hopes for the show to be great, but that was not to be. I'm not really disappointed at all in this year's installment of American Idol, and I'm going to miss Simon Cowell next year.

Today's Randomnimity

From Blogizdat LJ:

  • I wonder if anyone but search bots read this?
  • Was asked to take over a database at work, was shown in a hurry of a flash, and don't remember squat about it, and now I need to run some queries against it this weekend, but I don't know how!!! Damn MS Access! I mean, I learned command line Oracle SQL in school, why can't I use that??? Grrrr!
  • I really, really, really want an iPad!

Today's Randomnimity

From Blogizdat LJ:

  • Went garage-saling this past weekend with the girls, and my head was somewhere else most of the day, but I did buy a few small things
  • I love the sight of bright red male cardinals in evergreen trees
  • I really, really, really want to blog more, though I only seem to be inspired when I'm feeling down, but when I'm down I write mostly in my other LJ's, and in various password-protected devices - I guess I need to get out of my head more
  • Speaking of writing, I wish I had a count on the number of words I've written in the past five years - total, in all permutations: blogs, journals, personal and work emails, chat, FB and other social networking, SMS - I mean, my vague inkling is that I've written several million words, a good deal of which are stored hither and yon, some of which have been lost to the ether, some of which are utterly trivial, but some of which are really important, and I just wish I had time to read thru them all
